Welcome!
Motivated by his work with local teens and growing concern about
their lack of commitment to a local church, Pastor Jim Kilby sought to break
free from tradition and create an atmosphere where both the teens and, just
as importantly, their families, would feel comfortable. Harvest Christian Fellowship
is a start-up church where the gospel of Jesus Christ is freely preached and
where the best of the old and new in worship styles is combined. It is located
inside what used to be a notorious bar, but now houses both the church and a
positive space for teens called The Attic Teen Center, also founded by Jim.
A common misconception, however, is that a "church"
is a building--generally with some stained glass and pews. While that is true,
it is also true that "a" church is a person indwelled with the Holy
Spirit of God (a "temple of the Holy Spirit). The sum total of all those
little churches is called "the Church," the Bride of Christ, or sometimes
the Body of Christ. When these little churches come together, we like to call
that the fellowship of believers. And as we gather in His name, we know He is
here with us (Matthew 18:20) We derive our name from this simple, yet profound
belief.
Our purpose at Harvest Christian Fellowship is to be a place
of teaching and fellowship for the believers that gather here, and to build
more little churches by faithfully presenting the good news about Jesus. We
use solid biblical teaching to prepare and equip each other for ministry inside
and outside of our "building!"
There is a famine for the Word of God, reflected in the moral
decline we see evidenced all around us. We're a small church with a passion
to provide hope and a better way as we reach out to the local community with
the good news of Jesus Christ. Come join us!
Matthew 11:28
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and
I will give you rest."
